Detailed Itineraries

 Day 1: Pick up from the hotel and drive down south and to Selous Game Reserve. At 55,000 km sq, Selous is the largest protected largest game reserve in the world.  It is named after legendary British hunter-explorer Frederick Courtney Selous, who was killed here during the WW1.

Selous boasts of Tanzania’s largest population of elephant as well as large numbers of herds of buffalo, hippo, crocodile, wild dog, a variety of 440 species of birds, over 2000 variety of plants, hot volcanic springs, lagoons, the great Rufiji River and the diverse landscape makes Selous Game Reserve a World Heritage site. Other species commonly seen are lion, bushbuck, impala, giraffe, eland, baboon, zebra and greater kudu. Over night at Mobile Camp, full board.

Day 2: 

Start the day with a walking safari accompanied by an armed game ranger. Thereafter, proceed for a full day drive with packed picnic lunch provided. Overnight at Mobile Camp, full board

Day 3: 

Morning boat safaris along Rufiji River which will be followed by the full day game drive in the reserve with full board accommodation at Mobile Camp.

Our classic safari style cool, walk-in canvas tents are thoughtfully sited to maximise beautiful views, cool breezes and total privacy.  The tents are furnished with king-size double beds, which are made daily with crispy clean linen laid over a thick, comfortable mattress.  Mosquito netting on all doors and windows provides security from insects whilst allowing the cooling breezes to circulate inside the tent.  A convenient luggage rack, bedside table, reading lamps and torch complete the simple but tasteful furnishings.  Each tent has an en-suite bathroom appointed with shaving mirrors, washstand, soft towels, soap and shampoos.  Hot water for bathing is available throughout the day.

Day 4: 

Mikumi N.P. is Tanzania’s third largest National Park and covers an area of 3230 sq km.  One of the principal features of Mikumi is the Mkata River flood plain, an area of lush vegetation, which particularly attracts elephants and buffaloes. The park is flanked between the Uluguru and Udzungwa Mountains. Open grasslands dominate in the flood plain, eventually merging with the miombo woodlands covering the lower hills. Mikumi National Park is home to buffalos, giraffes, elephants, lions, zebras, leopards and is also famous for its wild dogs and 6m long pythons. Overnight at Foxes Safari Camp, full board.

Day 5:

 Ruaha is approximately 5hrs drive from Mikumi. This is one of the most scenic routes in southern circuit, villages, hills, mountain, local agricultural projects on the great Ruaha River are some of the attractions on this route. Overnight at Ruaha River Lodge, full board

Day 6&7: RUAHA NATIONAL PARK

 is Tanzania’s 2nd biggest park and host to a number of animals which are rare or absent in the North. The rare animals include the African Wild dog, roan and sable antelope and the greater kudu. The Great Ruaha River that provides life to the park, flows through the eastern side of the park and is home to hippos, crocodiles and a variety of water birds. Over nights at the Ruaha River Camp, full board.

Day 8: 

Breakfast at the camp then depart to Mikumi National Park for overnight at Vuma Hill Tented Camp, full board.

Day 9: 

Early morning breakfast at the camp then drive Udzungwa Mountain National Parks for full day walking activities. Overnight at Vuma Hill Tented Camp, full board.

Udzungwa Mountains National Park covers an area 1,900 sq km and is the newest National Park in Tanzania opened to the public only 1992. The red colubus and the Sanje crested manabrey, elephants, buffalos, leopards, and sable antelopes are some of the residents in this park. A good range of birdlife is present which includes Rufous winged sunbird, Iringa akalat, Lagden’s bush shrike and Udzungwa partridge. Activities include a hike to the Sanje water falls or a climb to the top of the Luhombereo, Udzungwa highest peak.

Day 10: 

Early morning departure for Dar es Salaam to connect with your flight for Zanzibar or to connect with your flight back home.
